Hi — I'm David Marc Dykstra, a folk songwriter based in Edmonton, AB. I'm classically trained, a Tuesday night regular at Frank's Pub open mic, and I put out a new song every week. They're political, personal, funny, dark — sometimes all at once.
The archive has grown into something I'm pretty proud of: labour rights anthems sung by elves, a song about the rhombus, gut-punch addiction ballads. I play in unusual tunings, write in compound time, and I don't think a songwriter has to pick a lane. Glad you're here.
